I have been working at SWCA full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Office environment was relaxed and friendly. Most managers kept an open door policy (most). The good managers recognized abilities and allowed staff to work independently on projects with genuine guidance. Field work allowed an employee to travel frequently to diverse ecological regions.

    Cons

No promotional potential. In working here, I actually took steps backwards in my career due to poor senior management. Senior managers have serious ego dilemmas with very little cause. They expected employees to continue to show up at work during long periods when billable hours were non-existent. Their marketing strategy was abhorrent and could not land projects of noteworthy value and extended work. Senior management lacks leadership and team building skills that cause serious work related riffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The majority of employees leave due to their supervisor/manager. A great company's success is built more on reputation and performance than profits.
