Former Employee - Random IT Person in Tampa, FL

I worked at SYKES

Pros

- Decent benefits package
- Lots of charitable work done by the company
- Counter cyclical to a large degree, so even in a bad economy they should remain fairly stable

Cons

- Complete lack of direction from senior IT management
- Latest re-org in IT is a farce
- Penny wise, pound foolish is the rule - at least in IT
- Different regions act largely independent, to the point of being rogue
- The HR department as a whole is completely inept

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Stop incorporating the failed, top-heavy management structure of ICT. There is a reason they were barely surviving before you purchased them.
- Improve inter-department communications. There is way too much duplication of effort because no one knows what anyone else is doing.
- The HR department - do something about it. It has a well deserved reputation for being horrible and completely useless, and it's been that way for years.

I have been working at SYKES

    Pros

    You get semi good pay.
    It's a job.
It's a sit down job vs. a physical job.

    Cons

Sykes does not care about its workers. When mostly every one else gets holidays off with family Sykes workers are made to clean cubes or take calls.
The benefits really do not cover anything.
You play musical chairs every three months.
    There is no stability.
This job is that, a job. This is a job that a trained monkey could do if it could talk and type.
The raises when you get a raise is like .05, wow big money!!!
Management does not do their job. They like to pass the buck.
This job is very flexible, you can never plan around your job.
You do not get your information in a timely manner.
You never really learn anything its the same thing over and over.
With dealing with official businesses you do not recieve the "perks" as if you were working straight for the business itself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make your employees "happy" employees. If your workers are happy then your customers are going to be happy. Treat your employees like you want to be treated. Don't pass the buck to other people under you. Step up to the job. Remember that if you lie to your employees then they are going to return the favor.
