Sabre could be a fun place to work, but leadership is lacking.

I have been working at Sabre

Pros

Work with very smart people, including some of the most knowledgeable airline industry professionals. Travel to interesting locations and opportunity to network with airline industry leaders. Work is challenging and solutions are interesting to study. Sabre is trying, but struggling, to do the right things for its employees around benefits and work-life balance, but it work-life balance can vary greatly by department.

Cons

It seems that some of the brightest O.R., developers and other technical team members are promoted to leadership roles and management with little to no experience or training. Leaders lack the ability to pull groups together (i.e., delivery with development with solutions team with technical implementation with account/sales teams) to form a cohesive, in-step team working towards common goals. Sabre leadership pushes for sales of solutions well before they are developed or even prototyped with little hope of completing projects on time even after the deals are signed. Sabre does not focus on the product quality, but instead on sales targets and the product quality has been in a steep spiral down as a result. This also means that delivery are often caught in the middle and work-life balance suffers tremendously.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

FOCUS on QUALITY! Stop development of new solutions for ONE YEAR and fix the ongoing issues with the products. Follow the Apple model and if you build the highest quality, bug-free, tried and tested product, then the customers will come knocking down our doors.

I have been working at Sabre

    Pros

Good benefits, wellness information and support and they get involved with the community. The 'fun' ratio and work/life balance very much depends on department and leads.

    Cons

Some departments have very poor management and have no work/life balance. Some have zero communication within the team. The global work force can create horrible hours and doesn't always increase productivity.
HR needs to do a better job of posting jobs. Most of the postings are generic and you can't tell what the job is for. Make the hiring manager list something about the real position and what area it involves.
Many of the managers are not in the location of their reports which presents a huge issue with feedback and increases (if there are any).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen and interact with your people. Get the scoop from the team and not just your direct reports and follow some suggestions. Take a real look at the global work place and how it affects the team. Create teams as much as you can in one location. Say hi to your team!!
