What was once a great company is quickly losing its way.

I have been working at Sabre full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Great health, 401K and vacation benefits. Very environmentally aware culture that takes being green and community service very seriously and truly makes an impact.

Cons

The innovation is gone and the funding for it has dried up. Other (non-GDS) companies are much better positioned to win in travel in the long run. The bureaucracy and politics and investment decisions have slowly driven all of the most talented employees away. That (bright employees) used to be Sabre's strength, but not anymore. I look at the VPs and SVPs running things now and am absolutely amazed by their lack of knowledge and incompetence.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Two things: 1) Put your money where your mouth is and invest in the areas you say hold the highest potential growth (both from a personnel perspective and new products/acquisitions), and 2) take a close look at who is leading each business unit - if the results aren't there (strategic goals, financial goals, and employee engagement) then make a change. And don't just move them to another business unit as you have historically done.

I have been working at Sabre full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent Salary and good 401k. Benefits are good. Some areas pay attention to work life balance. Building is fairly new. Fast paced environment in some ways (customer interaction, sales, lots of travel if you want it). Do somethings to push the technological envelope.

    Cons

Flexible seating arrangement, even for those who come to the office EVERY day means you don't always get to sit by those in your group, and of course, you can't leave anything at your desk overnight. Seems like Management has reduced spending on cleaning and the restrooms can get rather nasty at times.
Projects are not well run, and alot of work is prioritized by what is most on fire.
Some groups, especially in Development, are allowed to just ignore good development principles (in fairness many of them have been understaffed, but now that they are staffing up, I don't see a change in behavior).
Lots of acquired products around which there is sparse tribal knowledge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be willing to make changes in leadership to improve the culture. Get rid of management that is abusive either in forcing people to work beyond their capacity, or just constantly belittling people. HP seems to be more of a drain than a help. Take you technical future back. Spend some money on better cubicles and work area for your people. You folks are in the knowledge business, but your open office space treats them like a bunch of typists.
