I worked at Safeway part-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

It's employment until you can get something better.

Cons

Where do I start? For one, the "handbook" looks like it was put together by a fifth grader. Management only enforces rules at their whim, watch out they seem to be bi-polar! You get yelled at for something you may not have done.

Advice to Management

It's not all about you. It's ok to smile once in a while instead of the normal 'management scowl'.

I have been working at Safeway part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You can train in multiple departments of the store for variety and increased hours.

    Cons

I've been working for 2.5 years and still make minimum wage because I've been waiting for the union contract to renew. I have had several scheduled wage increases that have not appeared on my paycheck because minimum wage increased above several years' worth of wage increases. All that to say, you get raises in tiny incremental amounts. If minimum wage increases with the cost of living as it should, you will still be making minimum wage for years. Also, they will do their very best to schedule you with less than 20 hours per week so that you will not qualify for health insurance. The more employees they have working without health insurance, the better they sit financially.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees as real people who need scheduled hours so they can feed their families instead of disposable pawns.
