I have been working at Safeway full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Received a pay check every week.

Cons

District Manager had no personality, it's all about who you know. Poor training. Two faced environment. Impossible bonus structure.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a good training program, teach district managers to be equal with managers. Far too many audits

I have been working at Safeway full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good beginning job for someone entering the work force. If you stay long enough, at least two years, you are eligible for insurance coverage.

    Cons

Very few employees receive full time hours; makes it difficult to bank enough hours for benefits. The management (Corporate Level and Store Manager) harass employees constantly--treating them like they are idiots. Expected to perform 8 hours of work in 6 hours or less. Union regs make it hard to get rid of bad employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A kind word goes a long way--constantly harassing employees is bad for morale--most people leave because of the crappy treatment.

I worked at Safeway part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

good starting job, easy to stay employed, training, time scheduled in advance and dependable to clock out on, well staffed, no drama or jealousy between staff, a kind yet firm general manager not afraid of

    Cons

sexual harassment, heavy accents were hard to understand

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

General opinion about the assistant managers matter a lot to job satisfaction. Amicability, clean communication, and professional interactions are important.
