Sage Software Anonymous in Atlanta, GA:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

Compensation is above average. Chance to work on major product lines. Your fellow co-workers will have your back and are generally supportive, but senior management is isolated and dis-ingenuous.

Cons

Bad management, this is a company full of employees just worried about CYA. Sage still suffers from the legacy of Ron Verny. Whereas he was focused on acquisition -- no one was focused on building Sage as a great place to work.

Advice to Senior Management

Trust your employees --- you go to a lot of work and expense to vet them. Allow them to operate more freely in their jobs and responsibilities. Micro-management is not the way to move your products to category leaders. Sage's brand strategy suffers from a follower mentality --- always chasing the market leader (Intuit) rather than focusing on innovation. Consider innovation in all areas, and beyond product innovation. Innovate the way you work with your employees and the kind of workplace you create. The culture of Sage is damaged and needs repair.
