    Pros

Good HR practices. Excellent compensation in their Line Haul division.

    Cons

Middle management doesn’t seem to have a sense of best practices when it comes to employees. No flexibility when it comes to scheduling time off. Not much room for advancement, if you start off as a Driver you will not progress, the same with Dock workers etc.

    Advice to Management

With over 5 years as a City Driver and 2 years as a Line Haul driver I performed to every one of Saia’s metrics. Solid company to work for, but every terminal had the same problems…companywide morale was low; there was very little room for the employees to take pride in their work and to have ownership of anything. Micro managed to the degree of how are you loading your hand truck. I appreciated the high expectations, the work load at Saia is higher than most other LTL companies but we had no sense of ownership therefor leaving most folks to feel unimportant and undervalued.

    Pros

Great low cost benefits, good employee recognition, great department to work for

    Cons

Pay not as competitive, poor executive leadership, very poor vacation policy

    Advice to Management

Bring back bonuses, hold executive leadership to the same standard that all other employees are and work on work/life balance
