Pretty much what one would expect of a Catholic college.

I have been working at Saint Anselm College full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Campus is beautiful, people are friendly, invested community, Jedi walk the campus (monks - but still fun to think about!)

Cons

Acceptance rate is high - many students not engaged in academics - more focused on social life. Many students resort to drinking as the only means of entertainment.

I worked at Saint Anselm College

    Pros

Great people in most of the positions, the monks and the professors are fantastic, very friendly place to work and nice small-college environment

    Cons

Pay is low for most jobs for all but the highest positions (caveat: there seems to be a proliferation of vice-presidents recently who are all, no doubt, well compensated), but that's the trade off working for a small college. Some administrative managers are dreadful at their jobs and I've seen good employees driven away by poor management, but that seems localized to a few departments. Little room to grow or advance within administrative job roles, and seemingly zero performance compensation bonuses. Great place to work for the mission and if you love what you do, but people who come here for the money and don't have a VP title won't be a good fit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't work so hard trying to turn lousy managers into good ones - it doesn't get results. Don't be afraid to turn over positions until you get the right person in there. St. A's is a good place to work - demand high results, hold people accountable, and you'll get them. Listen to front line employees who care about the school and do a good job day in and day out. Take their advice, especially the ones who have been around a long time, about what's working and what isn't with the culture.
