Cons

Too consumed with "best practices" and horrible pay if you grow within the company

I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You will benefit from a great employee discount on luxury merchandise. They have decent medical benefits.

    Cons

Management rarely promotes within. High employee turnover. Unrealistic sales goals. Needlessly stressful commission based environment. Your pay rate is on "a draw" -Meaning you must sell about 2,000 each day, before you begin to make commission. Until you make your draw... you are in "the negative" thus "owing Saks money". This makes for an extremely stressful environment.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring so many new-hires that it is impossible to even make one's draw. Choose a mature quality based staff, rather than a sea of hungry rather unqualified staff that tarnishes the stores integrity. Promote from within so your top employee's actually stay with the company.

I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    good money - nice discount

    Cons

top-level, top-down management style was not conducive to long-term, loyal employees. Very agressive sales technique used & encouraged. If the sales team is treated fairly & therefore WANT to do a great job; then comes commitment & loyalty which breed great service - the sales will come!!

    Advice to Management

Listen to the front line. They are your best asset.. Pay attention to them. Praise & acknowledge them when appropriate.
