I have been working at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time for more than a year

Pros

The discount is great, if you are relocatable it is much easier to move up and around in the company, they are very professional

Cons

The company is changing directions and focusing on the segment of business that is profitable, which means their Off Fifth locations. The store I was working at closed its doors and it seems like they are closing even more locations.

    Pros

Money can be good if you sell.

    Cons

If you don't sell you're screwed.

Management has no idea what's going on in the real world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like people instead of numbers.

I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Management is incredibly supportive, the company is motivating and treats employees with respect, um the fashion is incredible, if you are a good sales person and know how to grow a client you WILL make a lot of money. HIGH commission ...scheduling is also very flexible for retail

    Cons

On the floor stress and tension and can be emotional, High commission but you have to make your goal FIRST and then any returns you receive get deducted from your weekly selling..which can create "a hole" that hole rolls into your next weeks expectations...If you cant handle it you can get into an even bigger hole and never get out. BUT if youre good you can really make some good money...my highest weekly pay check was $2400 and my lowest was $320...very inconsistent paychecks

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up what you are doing...the Saks business plan is a well oiled machine..you've created a pay system that not only inevitably weeds out the weak for you but can be very rewarding for the ones who work hard. Management from my experience is the perfect balance of compassion and strict business. I only wish that there was a little more room for growth. Assistant Selling Managers would be a great addition. I would come back in a heartbeat!
