I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (more than an year)

Pros

You can sell throughout the store and are encouraged to. The clients and coworkers are generally very nice. Opportunities are limitless but difficult to achieve

Cons

Opportunities are limitless but there is a lot of pressure to clientele, do returns and assist in the general running of the store all of which take away from sales performance

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on priorities and help workers achieve their goals

I have been working at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Training program
    Discount
Work with some really great people

    Cons

The work culture is tiring and gets very stale. There is absolutely no work/life balance. Work expectations are unrealistic. I have done early mornings, late nights and weekends the past 3+ years I have been with the company. I agree with many of the reviews on here re: favorites. VPs and SR VPs do have favorites, and they always happen to be the ones that are valued for other qualities over their work. Shocker. And these favorites are not most people and they do get promoted much faster. Raises are sad. Approx. 2% for Assistants this year. The corporate offices need a makeover. The bathrooms are gross and there are no kitchens. Systems are down. A LOT. This makes it hard to do our jobs. Most people at the company complain a lot, but stay for the discount.

I have been working at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits and discount - if you care for the label.

    Cons

The compensation system for selling is a disaster. It is hard to cover the draw, which is the minimum wage, after all the deductions your check doesn't cover expenses to show up at work. And yet, more people is hired to compete on selling floor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

1.Why don't you reconsider the compensation system: a base + commission ? The check would be more predicable, this would improve the morale which influences customer service level.
2.Do you really believe that putting more selling force improve the numbers? It just deludes income of everyone, causes huge turnover among employees which doesn't help to build customer relation and to assure quality service adequate to the standard of the store. Saks become The Revolving Door Store!
