I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time for more than a year

Pros

Name on resume, and very flexible scheduling, thats all.

Cons

Image of company is deceiving! Brown-nosing coworkers and managers, no trust amongst anyone, HR enforces hostility and complaints against employees for no reason, draw pay structure = basically commissions only....and had to pay $80 a month in parking fees!

Here's the bonus: this company is so cheap, they served a bag of 99 cent hersheys kisses for employee appreciation week.....I could write a book about how misleading this company is for future fashion and sales / marketing professionals

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay salary and commission, stop enforing hostile competition, train your managers to know how to use (or at least open) the registers. This was an embarassment of a company to work for.

I have been working at Saks Fifth Avenue part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

They do work with you if you are in college and need to take days off because of classes. There is a need to meet goals but it does not reflect poorly on you if you have a few days where you are not on your game.

    Cons

They force you to get a credit card to get your employee discount. If you are not approved then you can't make purchases at all with or without your discount. They do not hire anyone full time but they make you work full time hours and then cut them to 15hours or less a week when they feel like it. There is no room for growth or promotions within a store. There is unequal pay amongst most employees. It doesn't matter if you work in receiving, you will have to work out on the floor(selling mens, womens, kids, or accessories) and on weekends at managements whim.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The managers are the employees that have the least amount of knowledge when dealing with register functions, merchandising, receiving/shipping, daily inventory processes, and fashion trends. They need to familiarize themselves with general store functions and an understanding of the fashion industry.
