Luxury - but it's still "sales."

I worked at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

In the two stores I worked in my experience was mostly in cosmetics. I also worked for MAC inside a Saks. I would rate it as an overall typical corporate sales job. The economic downturn was not nice to Saks & they closed many stores.

Cons

If you've worked big corporate retail, then mostly no surprises here. Yes, it's luxury retail; therefore, the question of the customer spending is higher level and so your service is expected to be. If you're not a fan of being on the phone constantly to generate sales, then this won't be the place for you. Foot traffic isn't high in most Saks, so you will be calling on your customers frequently.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't try to polish a turd, then sell it to your underlings....Many of us are previous managers that know that pony trick.

I have been working at Saks Fifth Avenue full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Seniors are very approachable and easy to communicate with, have ability to control and develop your own business, learn a great deal about fashion and the ins and outs of retail aside from just sales

    Cons

must make weekly draw before receiving any commission-- usually easy to do, but some weeks can result in a very low paycheck out of your control

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

make an associate handbook of all functions/possible encounters available at each register to refer to, as there is a lot to memorize
