    Pros

Compensation is more than fair and is a combination of base salary + bonus + stock options. For people in R&D, work hours are flexible and most developers work from home on a regular basis. In general the people are nice. Opportunities for promotion are frequent.

    Cons

Because salesforce has grown very quickly it appears that hiring standards can be fairly low or inconsistent. The technology environment is not leading edge or even very exciting because salesforce is a marketing and sales driven organization.

Senior management in technology tends to be very, very inexperienced and because promotions are so frequent those that run the company tend to have been with the company longest which doesn't guarantee competence or exposure to work outside of salesforce.

There are probably more folks in Quality Assurance and Program Management functions than in development and in many ways the organization is very heavy on administrative overhead.

    Advice to Management

Recognize that to have the best dev organization you have to be able to attract the best people and that takes more than compensation. It requires building a reputation for technical excellence.

    Stop promoting so quickly.

    Pros

Great work challenges and very enthusiastic colleagues, and being properly equipped to do our jobs.

    Cons

People get moved to different projects frequently, making it hard to get any continuity in roles.

    Advice to Management

Try to recognize the importance of a team that works well together, and stop breaking cohesive team members up
