I worked at Salt Lake County, UT part-time for more than a year

    Pros

It was pretty easy to get hired, not a terrible interview process. Free powerade for lifeguards, free admission to pool, etc.

    Cons

If you work an at outdoor facility, it is hot and the patrons can be jerks sometimes. People are sometimes promoted based on favorites, not experience/performance, etc. Petty cliques among some coworkers were also annoying.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire competant pool management (people that won't make stupid decisions). Of course this can be hard if you aren't offering very good wages....

I worked at Salt Lake County, UT as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

There are some very skilled and friendly people. The ability to learn is endless because there are quite a few individuals willing to help strengthen and build your skill set.

    Cons

There is a 'Always don it this way' attitude even though the processes are manual and could very easily be automated for productivity purposes. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way that back stabbing and the 'throw you under the bus' mentality was very prevalent. This of course made this a very non-team oriented environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be more encouragement of change and innovation. The resistance of change and innovation is very counter productive.

    Neutral Outlook
