I have been working at Salvation Army full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Good pay, great environment, excellent benefits. Sundays off

Cons

Ever changing schedule. Flexible schedule almost always works to the employer's advantage

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Standardized training in ALL aspects of training. Too much is done without formal written training material. Training manual would be most helpful, if you desire stores to be run in certain ways

Good working atmosphere, but low wages.

I worked at Salvation Army part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Friendly and supportive environment. The office had a casual atmosphere, and the management was encouraging and confidence-inspiring. There was always coffee and snacks there in the morning for people waiting to go out to collect donations. Sometimes there were extra incentives given for collecting a lot of donations (such as gift cards to grocery stores). A good way to earn a little bit of money just before Christmas.

    Cons

The pay was only minimum wage. There wasn't always enough work to go around, so some days not everyone who showed up got to go out on the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tell people when they're first hired that they may not get to go out on the job everyday, but that they usually will get some work if they bring in at least an average amount of donations on the days when they do get sent somewhere.

    Pros

People are friendly, Office is clean, large lunchroom and meeting areas, IT Dept is efficient with what they are allowed to do

    Cons

A lot of office politics, Insider "Army" culture that is not always advantageous to mission and goals, not ideal for a younger person
