Current Employee - Meat Team Leader in Houston, TX

I have been working at Sam's Club full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

benefits are decent, job security for hourly associates is good, all you really have to do is show up for work on time and do your job.

Cons

Growth is not very good. From what hourly associates see how management is treated most don't have any desire to promote.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set realistic goals for your management team. Stop all the harassment and constant threats. Get connected with the Associates what happen to CBWA?? the company has really taken a turn for the worst, my guess is greed and the lack of values. Since the Waltons have passed the company has really lost its culture. All these Ivy Leaguers are killing the company!

I have been working at Sam's Club part-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Medical benefits for part timers

    Cons

While they are big on community support and feeding other countries they could care less that the employees are living in poverty. They bring you in with the promise of work, benefits and annual bonuses. What they really do is cut your hours so drastically that you don't work enough hours to keep your benefits or earn a decent share of the bonus or make enough to pay your bills. They do this so the management can get a bigger bonus. The biggest priority for the company is conning members into an upgrade. They staff bare minimum in the ancillary depts. Ie jewelry photo phones etc the managers are young and socialize with associates outside of work and unless you are part of the circle you will never see a promotion. They do the obligatory interviews a required by corporate but unless you are friends you don't have a chance. The front end supervisors are teens to twentys that do not have a clue as to how to supervise.. District and corporate aren't any better,i have called both using the open door policy and have never gotten a call back. You can't reach them in person only leave a message that goes unanswered.

I worked at Sam's Club full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good pay for retail/food work.

    Cons

Constantly changing leadership, constantly increasing bureaucracy and paperwork, and proportionately decreasing cafe functionality. Awkward, soulless corporate culture/team building. Unprofessional management. Weekly corporate intervention, resulting in completely changed and inconsistent policies week to week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't actively inhibit your employees from working efficiently.
