I have been working at San Andreas Regional Center

Pros

The vision, health and dental benefits are great. Most employee positions are backed by the Union which doesnt allow the organization to over work its employees.

Cons

You will need to work at SARC for 10-25 years to get promoted. Low pay compared to industry standards. Raises are very minimal.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Praise your employees when its due. Be more involved in the process. Be more concise with direction. Do not be afraid to teach your employees your own process. New minds bring in new ideas, therefore, do not be afraid of change.

I have been working at San Andreas Regional Center as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

You can say yes or no to referrals, so take as many or as little kids as you would like.
You work in the homes, which I believe is ideal...it's all about parent coaching right?
Most social workers are very nice to work with.
You can accept kids only within a certain mile radius if you don't want to have to drive too far. I highly recommend that. It might take longer to build a caseload, but in the end you won't be driving all over the place.

    Cons

You don't get paid for writing up IFSP paperwork, so you need to be creative about building in the time (if you miss one visit a month with the family due to sickness, can use that hour towards paperwork)
It helps to be bilingual, they do not provide interpreters; but you can ask for just english speaking families.
They don't reimburse for mileage; claim it on your taxes though

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow the same professionals who evaluate also treat the same child; provides family with rapport, and creates quality goals and cohesiveness for both the therapist and families.
