I have been working at San Diego Gas & Electric full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Quality of Co-Workers: By far best group of people I have worked with. Excellent teamwork. Some pretty brilliant people, lots with oceans of experience from Tier 1 employers.
Benefits- Excellent benefit package
Offices- Most are fairly modern with modular and ergonomic upgrades being done constantly.
Location- It's San Diego!!
Innovative- SmartGrid and related orgs are working on cutting edge applications, wireless and transport network enhancements to improve the security and reliability of the electric grid.

Cons

IT Old Boys Club. Like many others have said here, Without the OBC card, especially in IT you are not going anywhere without Director Level or better advocacy!
Political-VERY in IT
Clique-like-VERY in IT

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house on some of the middle management dead weight that's been kept around far past their shelf-life and/or usefulness or ability to play nice with others! Get rid of the organizational cancers. You know who they are!!

I have been working at San Diego Gas & Electric full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Benefits, pay and overall stability

    Cons

I have no clue how some of these people are in management, uneducated and extremely unethical practices from management. Lots of favoritism, politics and lots of lawsuits against SDGE and management from employees. Not all departments are like this but many are. Beware.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to upper mgmt- if ethics is called multiple times on same issues by different people, please investigate!

Great place to retire at work, favors male engineers, old boys club mentality

I worked at San Diego Gas & Electric

    Pros

Location is the best place in the US - weather-wise
    Great employee benefits
    Generous time-off
Laid-back, friendly atmosphere - sometimes, too relaxed

    Cons

    Pervasive "old boys club" mentality
Semi-ethical in some departments - middle management is very complacent, does not promote non-engineer women, favors male employees, highly political
you can only move up if you know somebody at the top
Excessive waste (admins have too much leeway in "office expenses", office supplies, facilities, parties, 2-hour lunches) at the expense of ratepayers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the exit interviews of senior-level employees who left the company, and take into heart their suggestions for improving compliance, processes, and management. You need to empower women minorities in the workplace better, and get rid of the loud-mouth dead-weights.
