Great opportunities for the ambitious, but some colleagues get too complacent in their jobs

I have been working at San Diego Gas & Electric

ProsSan Diego Gas & Electric is the only California electric utility that did not become insolvent during the 2000-2001 energy crisis. That says a lot about the professionals it employs in its regulatory, finance, and accounting departments. Although SDG&E is much smaller than the other California IOUs (PG&E and SCE), what it lacks in size it gains in efficient management and focused decision-making.

ConsThe industry as a whole has very little turnover and as a result some employees get complacent and fail to keep up with the times. In other more competitive enterprises these people would have been laid-off or terminated long ago. That said, there are plenty of opportunities for those who are young, ambitious, and aspire to do great things.

Pros: Good work life balance and many good people to work… Cons: Disorganized business processes and it takes forever to get anything… Advice to Senior Management: Most of the departments within the SDG&E work in a silo; there is very little enterprise view of the organization.
