San Diego Gas & Electric – “Great opportunities for the ambitious, but some colleagues get too complacent in their jobs

Jun 7, 2009

4.0

San Diego Gas & Electric Anonymous:   (Current Employee)

Pros

San Diego Gas & Electric is the only California electric utility that did not become insolvent during the 2000-2001 energy crisis. That says a lot about the professionals it employs in its regulatory, finance, and accounting departments. Although SDG&E is much smaller than the other California IOUs (PG&E and SCE), what it lacks in size it gains in efficient management and focused decision-making.

Cons

The industry as a whole has very little turnover and as a result some employees get complacent and fail to keep up with the times. In other more competitive enterprises these people would have been laid-off or terminated long ago. That said, there are plenty of opportunities for those who are young, ambitious, and aspire to do great things.

Advice to Senior Management

I have no advice to give to management.
