Good environment but unstable job security especially if you didn't graduate from SDSU

I worked at San Diego State University as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

    Time off policies, flexibility,

    Cons

They give preference to their own graduates rather than the experience. It makes it hard to get in but it also makes it easier for them to provide low pay for many of the positions because some of them have been working there since they were getting their bachelors. You can also tell when they have not worked anywhere else but the school by their attitude and organization. They can be really relaxed and slow to produce results. Many things are taken for granted because they know the school will always be there. The temporary staff is strung along and a full time position doesn't always come to fruition. When it does, you still have to compete which is good but not when they go for someone else because they're willing to take a lower pay and don't necessarily have the same talent or experience. Its not surprising to find materials that are outdated with mis-information. For instance, office hours for a teacher that hasn't been there for years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to see the big picture and not be complacent. Yes, there will always be students and its easy to take the jobs for granted for those that do get in full time. However, it can always grow and be better and more competitive.

I have been working at San Diego State University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Offers you great part-time work to (ideally) balance with your classes, but the school asks too much of you sometimes.

    Cons

Too demanding for the required hours you are supposed to work, i.e. too much work to accomplish during the time you are actually working.
