I worked at San Joaquin Community Hospital full-time (less than an year)

Pros

The benefits are amazing. I got to work with an incredible team & I had the support of management at every turn.

Cons

Some jobs are contracted out to different agencies. The workers from these companies would complain at length & loudly about the lack of compensation.

    Pros

    Family Oriented Organization, Faith based

    Cons

It can be noted that promotions are more of who you know and are friends with then with qualifications. They have hired way too many nurses from foreign countries and being able to communicate is very important however it is increasingly being reported that the nurses are difficult to understand and talk in their native language in front of others regularly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look more into the abilities of those you hire into positions of authority and less on whom they might be friends with in management.

I have been working at San Joaquin Community Hospital full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Entirely new administrative leadership team is in place now and leading the company in a good direction as far as CMS compliance, updating the equipment, supplies and technology, as well as improving organizational management and planning.

    Cons

Organization has been through a 2-3 year period of instability with high staff turnover, poor staff morale and frequent CMS audits. Nursing units frequently understaffed with a high ratio of travelers and floats to regular staff. High value placed on "Sacred Work" initiatives to meet the wholistic needs of patient's and their families, but little actual effort to support staff in work-life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In order to retain nursing staff, increase morale, and create an environment of sacred work for patients, it is necessary to demonstrate concern for the work-life balance of employees. Consider Maslow's hierarchy of needs... respect, consideration, and support for employees' work-life balance is necessary in order for them to provide an environment of sacred healing for patients and their families. Consider approval of employee vacation time with enough advance notice for them to make plans in their personal lives so that they can come back to work refreshed & ready to give to their patients & organization. Consider better staffing levels, ensuring staff are available to allow RNs to take lunch breaks in a timely manner, so that they are nourished enough physically & mentally to give excellent, empathetic, wholistic care to patients. Genuine efforts to support staff translate into sacred work.
