I have been working at Saudi Aramco

Pros

Excellent benefits package, great community life, good schools, safe quiet surroundings, exposure to different cultures, good salary, interesting work and plenty of it. Great vacation package and easy to reach superb and exotic destinations (e.g., India, Nepal, China, Philippines, Thialand, other Gulf States, etc.). Friendly people. 401K is matched by company at 9%, retirement pension is outstanding and rare in today's corporate world. Can take lump sum payment at early retirement (10 years service and over 50 years of age).

Cons

You are away from the US. Some people find this disconcerting at first, but it does lessen with time. Prices in community are rising. Some communication problems. Some restrictions on daily westernized lifestyle.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase cost of living and expatriate premium benefits greatly as these are a bit outdated.

I have been working at Saudi Aramco full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Terrific 401(k) and generous defined benefit Pension Plan - only reason that this company rates "4" for me.
    Cheap company-provided housing.
Working and living with people from throughout the world is life enriching.
GREAT PEOPLE HERE - you will make friends so quickly, so close.
    Inexpensive housing provided.
Nice recreation facilities provided at no additional cost.
Lots of self-directed groups (Women's Club, Photography, Art Group, Society of Petroleum Engineers), best in Dhahran with full range and other camps with moderate range.
Have started bring professors here periodically from nine universities to earn advanced degree - appears mostly available to Saudis.

    Cons

No company in the world discriminates more than Saudi Aramco - they know what country you're from and what salary it takes to attract you. Countries with hard working, non complaining persons are taken advantage of - they are slowly promoted - Examples, Filipinos, Indian.
Performance management program is a joke - extreme favoritism shown towards Saudi Nationals to earn highest ratings, ratings are on a forced curve, which limits favorable pay ratings.
Glass Ceilings for most expatriates - rare to earn a department manager or above.
Not all your talents will be utilized, which can be frustrating.
    Not always treated fairly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Allow expatriates upward mobility.
Radical change to performance management program.
