Pros

Opportunities to advance ones education and career. A supportive group of professional individuals with a common goal of providing a quality education and learning experience for the community and students.

Cons

Due to recent budget restraints and funding guidelines, providing top of the line services to students is a continued struggle.

I worked at Sauk Valley Community College

    Pros

Great people, relaxed atmosphere, nice campus, great employees. Can be a lot of fun to work there. Everyone feels like family.

    Cons

Promotions are rare, pay is not great. If you don't like small towns or that small town feel, then this is probably not the place for you. Opportunities are available, but not without usual educational buerocracy.

I have been working at Sauk Valley Community College

    Pros

There is a good spirit among employees, most people genuinely enjoy working here. The benefits package is among the very top for community colleges in Illinois, and management seems to be committed to keep it there. There are fairly frequent employee get togethers which help foster employee morale. Investing in technology seems to be a priority for upper management, so the overall level of technology is good considering the amount of funding.

    Cons

It is a bit like walking into a time warp. The facilities are very outdated and do not really represent a college (even a community college) very well; it feels more like an elementary classroom from the 1980s. The college is located in rural Illinois, so there is not a lot to do in the area (expect to drive about an hour to get to either Rockford or the Quad Cities).
