I worked at Savage Companies
Pros – Savage Services has some good solid core values and generally competent employees, at least on the surface/to your face. They did have a reasonably good quality of work-life balance. The company is privately held, so the right decisions are made without any shareholders swaying decision-making processes.
Cons – Savage compensation is not the best, and you can expect to make around 50th percentile of the national or state average for your job. The company is mormon owned and you can expect to be considered an outsider if not mormon. Expect them to not trust you and go behind your back to verify everything you do, even when you do it right. The safety department has little knowledge of any other industry than trucking. They lack chemical/transloading, railroad, and operations management experience. The have a somewhat substandard medical plan and 401k plan.
Advice to Senior Management – Upper management bit off more than they could chew and need to get ride of the good-old-boys mormon network that has caused non-mormons to leave the company for greener pastures. The founding brothers principles of "family" have been lost with the medical plan changes that took place in 2011.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
