    Pros

If you are lucky you will get a good team

    Cons

No room for promotions unless you know your district manager, lot of back stabbing amongst asm in order to get promotion

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check your district managers and division directors since they are making promises and not looking at work and performance of the other employees

I worked at Save-A-Lot Food Stores full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The company provides a great service to the communities it serves. Great prices on foods you use every day. You can feel good about the service you provide. Customers thank you every day for being part of their community. Salary and benefits are okay. Paid weekly.

    Cons

Management turnover is high. You will work 7 days a week if you are short management in your store. As a manager you do it all - cashier, unload trucks, write the order, open store alone, clean the restrooms, sweep the lot, etc. These tasks are done by managers in many companies but usually you are supporting your team by helping with these tasks. At SAL if you don't do it - it doesn't get done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn and understand what succession planning is all about. Build and execute a plan to staff your stores and handle the "What if" scenarios. Develop a Career Path for your associates and share it with them. Insert a "key holder' position between associate and assistant manager as part of the career path. Learn to say "Thank you".
