I have been working at Savvis

Pros

Savvis has solid management, with attention to finance, focus on customers, and operational stability. Management in the past wasn't always this solid; the new management deserves credit. In terms of products, Savvis provides network, hosting, and cloud services. If you want to work with technology involving networks, servers, storage, and security then Savvis offers plenty of opportunity.

Cons

The flip-side of maturity in a company like Savvis, is that the work isn't always exciting and sometimes management is risk averse. Process such as "change management" can feel like a burden. Products are interesting, but not bleeding edge.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be willing to take more risk; innovation involves failure, but is necessary to lead the market. Savvis must be more agile to compete with emerging cloud competitors, or it will lose business.

    Pros

Savvis has opportunity for growth in the area of cloud computing.

    Cons

The orgainzation operates in silos which do not connect well with each other.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Savvis must continue to improve support and operations. Sales and marketing need single leadership that understands both disciplines.

Not a bad place to work; the company has definitely turned itself around in the last few years.

I have been working at Savvis

    Pros

Unbelievably friendly and helpful colleagues. Many people at SAVVIS have been through two acquisitions (Exodus -> Cable & Wireless -> SAVVIS) involving round after round of layoffs, so the remaining people are those who you would want to work along-side; there is a mutual respect amongst your peers. Managements' visions have done good things to the company as it picks up larger and larger customers while providing bigger and better services. Lower level management has always been willing to bend over backwards to allow time off for personal needs.

    Cons

Since acquiring the datacenters from Cable & Wireless, raises have been minimal at best. That's assuming you even get one. Very little room for growth or promotion, but the opportunities do arise if you look for them. The company has slowly become more and more "corporate" in the sense that many company changes over-complicate things and are frustrating to deal with on a daily basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing, but consider rewarding your employees with better compensation. 2% raises every year (or sometimes every other year) to employees with stellar manager reviews provides little incentive to improve.
