Former Employee - Field Engineer  in  Khobar (Saudi Arabia)
Former Employee - Field Engineer in Khobar (Saudi Arabia)

I worked at Schlumberger

Pros

Great training schemes and diverse career paths. Life in the field can be tough but at the end of the day it's rewarding and worth the long and intense working hours.

Cons

Work-life balance is a critical downside one can experience when working in the field. Working on rotation at a remote location (most typical scenario for a field engineer) doesn't allow you to take proper care of personal aspects in life.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

They can improve their foreman-like leadership style by focusing on developing other valuable and necessary soft skills than can positively influence subordinates.

I have been working at Schlumberger

    Pros

For me, the best part of Schlumberger is Diversity: there are unlimited chances to work with people from different countries, different cultrure background. This is really interesting!
By the way, Work/Life balance is also good. Longer annual leave than most of the other companies.

    Cons

Some management rules related to Oilfield Service are not suitable in a Software R&D center.
The process and standard of promoting a Software Engineer are still needed to be improved. Some people with poor technique skills get promoted while some really good developers cannot. Sometimes, it is not important how much you know, but how much you show.

    I worked at Schlumberger

    Pros

international environment, good promotion system, excellent benefits, possibilities to move everywhere in the world, you get to make strong bounds with colleagues

    Cons

In Schlumberger your personal life must not be important for you, work-life balance is completely outside of discussion. Work is first

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The nature of the bussiness requires people to work hard, but sometimes I found that management liked to keep everybody in a stress situation just because they could do it.
