I have been working at Schlumberger

Pros

Compensation, stock benefits, training, relocation.

Cons

Reinforcement of policies, zero tolerance rules, even if Schlumberger is not at fault. Lack of sleep, fatigue. Schlumberger has a blind eye when it comes between profit vs. safety.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manage employees hours better (Engineers / Specialist). Enforce 16 hour rule. Respect your workers. Give actual time off, improve the Quality of Life. Take care of the chicken and not just the golden egg.

I have been working at Schlumberger

    Pros

The exposure to different places, cultures, people. Schlumberger has a truly multicultural environment, with people from all over the world at any location or office. The training is the best in the industry. The advancement opportunities are plenty, especially for those who perform well. There always is a possibility to change during the career and do something new or do the same in a different place, with different people.

    Cons

Personal life has to be sacrificed at the beginning of the career, but eventually it is possible to find that balance.
Compensation is generally very good, except in the USA and Europe.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay closer attention to people's needs

I have been working at Schlumberger

    Pros

Early opportunity for management experience and the training program is excellent. Hard work is rewarded both financially and prefoessionally.

    Cons

Work life balance is weighs heavily toward work. Field Engineers typically work in small towns which offer very little opportunity for an active social life. Generally, field engineers find themselves associating only with co-workers which can be both good and bad. Compensation is good, but generally lags behind other companies in the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more proactive. This is a bit ironic considering the recent layoffs, but generally, management is slow to react to a problem until it becomes a major issue. Too much time is spent firefighting rather than preventing them before they start.
