Current Employee - Truck Driver in Houston, TX
Current Employee - Truck Driver in Houston, TX

I have been working at Schneider full-time (less than an year)

Pros

I will have to say first of all that I am a new employee driving for less than a month. Flexible about giving you requested days off. Potential for great earnings but you have to be willing to stay over the road for awhile. Very good about fixing problems (repairs) as they occur. They do not push you to make eta's.

Cons

The current truck that I am in is a piece of junk and there seem to be a lot of them like mine on the road. Hard to reach anyone after 5 in the evening and almost impossible to reach anyone on the weekends. You have to watch your paycheck, they make errors. This is trucking and they will send you just about anywhere and it is hard to get out of an assignment without really good cause. Training in my opinion was not adequate.

I worked at Schneider full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Loved my first 5 years there... the last 5 years were awful and wiped out the positive experience gained in the first 5.

    Cons

Cliques. If you weren't in one... you didn't exist.

I worked at Schneider full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Newer equipment for the most part

    Cons

Poor management- I only had one good dbl (driver business leader) in the seven years I was with Schneider. The worst one was when I was on dedicated Jc penney in Forest Park Ga. She was so dumb she didn't even know it. I proved it to her on several occasions
Poor pay due to poor management- Can't make money if truck isn't moving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some people ie, dbls that know more about trucking than we are allowed to drive 11 hrs per day in a 14 hr period. My dbl once told me that I was idling my truck to much. I told her it was 90 degrees. She told me to strip naked if i had too. I think Schneider needs some real leaders. Ones that lead by example. Let Heather get her sorry fat butt in truck and strip naked for a week and not
Idle in the summer. Install apu's on trucks if your so concerned with idle time
