Pros

Great coworkers, the work you do has a positive impact on teachers' and students' lives, decent benefits, decent office. It can be chaotic but it's rarely dull. Always something new to work on.

Cons

Some of the senior leadership is great and supportive, others are either ego-driven / neurotic. Raises are regularly very small but there are opportunities for advancement and occasionally small bonuses for employees not on a bonus plan. Working late is expected.

Advice to Management

Make plans for the business clear to all employees. Focus on the business plan, not personal projects.

    Pros

Good working conditions and decent benefits.
Most other associates were friendly and helpful.

    Cons

Way behind in technology. For a company as large as it is they were lacking a lot!
Managers in my experience were not willing to listen or help associates. Striclty there to put in their time and get paid and make themselves look as good as possible to Sr Management.

    Advice to Management

Upgrade your technology and take time to hear associates ideas and suggestions.

Great co-workers, inspiring work, bad management

    Pros

Great benefits, awesome location in Soho, lots of really wonderful colleagues who believe in what they're doing, access to amazing children's books and helping kids through literature.

    Cons

Management and HR need to be seriously overhauled. Complaints to HR about management were not handled well - it was clear that this was an ongoing issue and nothing was being (or could be?) done about it. It often seemed that people who were not good at their jobs were carried along by the people who worked really hard rather than building teams that were high functioning across the board. Salaries seemed very disparate.

    Advice to Management

Really evaluate the teams you have in place and work with the employees you think are doing well to make those teams better - listen to them and value and respect their input rather than hiring outside consultant after consultant to fix things. Keep your employees in the loop and be respectful.
