Overall a nice place to work but the management style needs serious review.

Pros

The hours and paid holidays are nice. Benefits are good. Nice co-workers.

Cons

Territories and projects are not fairly divided or distributed. When you start to make commission, they will find a reason to take it away. They make you take vacation days when you are sick. Sometimes you don't know your sales goals until the very end of the month. Supervisors talk loudly amongst themselves all day, very loudly which is very distracting.

Advice to Management

Management classes would be helpful.

    Pros

Great mission- who can't get behind teaching kids to read!?! Great product! Awesome Foundation for the Arts! Smart people.

    Cons

Senior management lacks progressive thinking. Monolithic and slow. Very top down management style. Old school "personnel department" HR function.

    Pros

What's not to like about a company that's main mission is to get books to kids. Great place for working moms. Good work/life balance

    Cons

Outside of the blockbuster hits like Hunger Games and Harry Potter, the rest of the business model seems to be floundering and they are still feeling their way in the ecommerce space. It's hard to get excited when you are cutting back your budgets every other year.
