I worked at Scholastic

Pros

Exposure to the best of children's literature. Quite enjoyable working with media specialist's and librarian's at the K-8 level. Excellent benefits package.

Cons

Senior Management overall more competent / exhibited value and respect of employee's much more so than Regional Management. Pervasive issues in lack of trust and lack of respect among Regional Management towards staff across all levels.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open lines of communication. Instill respect, trust, value in your employee's. Revamp the evaluation process. It is archaic / demoralizing.

    Pros

i worked here as a first job and i found the people to be great to work with. that was probably the best bet.

    Cons

the hours were somewhat of a problem. i found that i worked more than nine to five at this job. i would liked to have had a regular schedule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

give opportunities to those who are starting out. as a first time job i found that i wished there had been someone to take me under their wing.

I have been working at Scholastic

    Pros

Casual work environment. Average benefits, such as medical and 401k.

    Cons

Poor annual raises. Poor management especially at the higher levels and poor communications. The company is not in touch with the current rapid changes and trends. Frequent restructuring is done and not always for the good of the company, which leads to major lay-offs and the new heads of departments starts hiring their friends and families to positions that they are completely unqualified for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure the people you hire are qualified to do their jobs.
