Pros

Lots of great talent and enthusiasm. It operates like a 12 year old startup. Free softdrinks and employee perks like fitness club reimbursement. People work hard.

Cons

CEO uses foul language as a motivational tool. It can be stressfull and unconfortable to be in his presence. It inhibits staff from expressing good ideas.
No opportunity to advance before Director level. Only hire from outside for VP positions.

Advice to Management

Stop focusing on quarter to quarter. Culture is not supporting of risk taking or giving people the benefit of the doubt.

    Pros

Frankly, I wouldn't recommend working there at this point.

    Cons

After the IPO management decided to cull higher paid employees, regardless of performance. Micro-management became the rule. Turnover became high, morale dropped, and current employees with whom I'm still friends are trying to get out.

    Advice to Management

    Start treating people with respect.

The focus was on throughput over quality. My boss was a micromanager that lacked leadership and made me hate my job.

    Pros

sciQuest is a relatively well run and disciplined company. They put an emphasis on repeatable processes and does a good job of delivering an ROI fairly quickly. Their application plays well with many other applications.

    Cons

I think their operational strategy shifted focused somewhat since the company went public. They seem to be going away from what made them successful. sciQuest overworks people and has a do whatever it takes mentality... bad work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

There's an overall lack of accomplished leadership at the manager level and the big picture approach is lacking.
