I worked at Scientific Research full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

easy going atmosphere and great team to work with

Cons

too much requirements creep and allowing outside influence in company affairs to secure contracts

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop letting outside influence (SPAWAR) personnel decide who should work on what within the company. It seems just to guarantee the next SPAWAR contract is captured, management lets outside personnel have far too much control over SRC personnel. Have confidence in the job that your own employees can deliver and do no throw your own people under the bus to make yourself look better, it only hurts you in the end.

I hope they find me another position on a different task order.

I have been working at Scientific Research full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The company is midsize, so the management is accessible and involved.
When my task order ended, they tried very hard to find me another position on a different project. At the same time they found new positions for several others on my project. When my project's funding was cut, they told us immediately, instead of waiting and preventing us from applying elsewhere.
EVERYONE I work with is VERY smart. They are all nice.
They paid me a little above standard for my job.
MANY lunch & learn training opportunities.
    Fun company fundraisers.
    Bring-your-dog-to-work day

    Cons

The benefits package is a little bit more expensive than I was used to.
The vesting schedule on the 401k is slow and delayed: 0% for the first 730 days, then 20% per year thereafter. (it takes 6 full years to become fully vested.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start a catastrophic leave bank with sick days (not vacation days). That will balance out for delayed 401k vesting.

    I worked at Scientific Research

    Pros

Great leadership at the corporate level.
    Great benefits.
Great atmosphere if working at company site.

    Cons

Local management office-bound in sustaining programs and projects.
Competition in local area seen weekly unlike SRC PMs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Having talented professionals working with the customer closely requires the same effort from Program managers beyond Emails and aperiodic meeting when funding is running out.
