I worked at Scotiabank full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Family atmosphere, the bank and employees care about each other
Many of the Employees are loyal to the bank, working there for 20+ years
Reduced cost and easier credit/mortgage for employees
Great y-o-y stock option price increase

Cons

Very process driven, risk averse (Keeps bank safe, but not very innovative)
Needs to upgrade the IT systems
Needs to open up the platform to attract International Investors to be on par with leading global investment banks

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great commercial and retail bank operations.
Need to hire and follow advice of experienced Senior Private Bankers (recommend Swiss bankers)

    Pros

    Can move within the bank in around 2 years and some education is paid by the bank.

    Cons

    Some departments can have toxic environment.

    Some managers need to recognize who is doing a good job and not who is kissing better rear end.

    Pros

    The atmosphere is warm,friendly and has excellent customer service skills that goes beyond the customers expectations. We feel wowed by the agents at Scotiabank.

    Cons

    There are charges for almost everything at Scotia.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    My advice is to treat staff as how they would want their own children to be treated or as how they would want others to treat them as managers. Respect begets respect.
