I have been working at Scripps part-time

Pros

People are passionate about what they do, if they're where they want to be. Everyone is generally good to work with and easy to communicate to. Lots of benefits and opportunities to grow, great environment.

Cons

No clear steps to promotion or upward mobility. Company seems to want to spend a lot of money in many areas including hot shot new hires instead of training and compensating current employees

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please make sure there is a training manual in all departments, all the new hires seem to not know what to do or what's expected of them and current employees just stare in disappointment not knowing clear boundaries or the intervention they should take when it's clearly the supervisors responsibility to develop a training program. All news stations want to be number one but that won't happen when things aren't changing for everybody. Things seem stagnant and you lose talented people.

    I worked at Scripps full-time

    Pros

You get experience in this industry, promotions are given.

    Cons

There are terrible hours, irregular shifts, no respect for when you've asked off, often on call, and sometimes no breaks are given. The management treats their employees very badly and there is no praise given and constant criticism, including blaming employees for things out of their control or that management did wrong. People quit all the time. Managers don't listen to the needs of their employees. Avoid working here!!!!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You either need to gracefully step away so that managers with good skill sets can take over and save the ever decreasing talent pool, or you need to do a complete change so that your employees aren't miserable.
