I worked at Sears as an intern for less than a year

Pros

There are lots of opportunities to advance and grow at Sears Holdings. I felt like the projects I was working on had a real impact. I was able to do both data analysis and implementation. Good work environment and feel that I connected well with.

Cons

Often times processes are not in place to perform tasks, and so you must discover/create the way. Similar to any large organization, the bureaucracy can be bothersome and slow to work through. Though the company seems to be turning things around, I still had concerns about the future of the company and its long-term strategies.

Overall Sears does not pay well, however the experience that you gain in retail management is astonomical. Use it!

I have been working at Sears full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Flexability, open work schedule. perfect for a second job.

    Cons

Pay is horrible, with no possibility for a raise EVER!! could not live on the pay if you expect it to be your only job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To rebuild a company, you have to start at the base/foundation. what keeps Sears running? It is the people, salesmen and women who work hard to be helpful. All of Sears is represented through them. PAY THEM what they are worth. Doing this will rebuild the company the way that Sears should be rebuilt... Cut your costs, sale your buildings, close hometown stores, but these are all short term gains. Your people are your real asset!
