Former Employee - Sales Associate in San Diego, CA
Former Employee - Sales Associate in San Diego, CA

I worked at Sears part-time (less than an year)

Pros

-Willing to hire almost anyone
-The other co workers are some of the nicest people
-Meet a lot of new people everyday

Cons

- Always trying to push their MasterCard on customers
- Open on major holidays. On Thanksgiving day we seriously only had 5 customers that day, 4 of them only came to have their "morning walk" around the store.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please do a cost analysis on having your store open on holidays. I believe you will find that you are in the red and that you are not providing customers with an additional benefit.

An overall good experience for a part-time job

    Current Employee - Sales Associate

I have been working at Sears part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

-Most of the employees are really nice
-Products you sell are relevant, for the most part
    -Flexible hours
-Pay can be pretty decent/ can also be terrible

    Cons

    -Micromanagement
    -Some employees steal sales
-If you work on commission then chances are you are going to have some bad paychecks
-All managers care about are credit apps and PAs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually hold open discussion on how to better sales practices rather than just using "the Sears way" that someone in an office typed up and put in a book. Engage and praise associates for things they do well, and not dwell on getting protection agreements and credit applications.
