Current Employee - Hardware Sales Associate Part-Time in Hayward, CA

I have been working at Sears part-time for less than a year

Pros

The management tends to have a very down to earth mentality and tries to be understanding. There is much room for promotion should you accel at your job as a sales associate from being promoted to lead and then on to managorial positions.

Cons

The pay is primarily based on commission and your ability to sell protection agreements. This makes the job exceedingly difficult to accel at in down economy times or if you are in a poorer region. In this regard your pay reflects your region. My job here is meant to be part-time, however the management has short staffed our department and as a full time student I am required to work 35-40 hours a week which is overwhelming.

I worked at Sears part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good environment. Team work (within your own team, as some other - i. e. cashiers- wouldn't cooperate).

    Cons

Worked for over a year with a good yearly review and had no raise, not even a single cent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more interest for your MCAs, they do most of the hard work and are a key point for customer service, yet they are seldom rewarded.

I worked at Sears part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good commission structure, established full time employees that are great to answer questions if you. Alot of customers are very loyal to Sears. It is easy to make good money as a side job on the weekend, or working nights.

    Cons

Cash registers and inventory systems are outdated. Not sure how, but these systems are probably from the 1970s or 1980s. Too often inventory would not match in the warehouse what was on the computer. Lost alot of sales and customers got upset because of this. This system needs manual inventory counts from full time employees to work. This is not fair to them and they are not getting properly paid for the work it takes to do this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in inventory control and tracking. You have some good customers that are loyal for life, but too often you take advantage of that and assume they can't get a better shopping experience somewhere else.
