I worked at Sears part-time (less than a year)

Pros

With extended stay opportunities to move up. Credit sales reflects well to managers and based on that your opportunities may grow. Atmosphere of the common workers was pretty good.

Cons

Ethically speaking the selling of credit to customers who are possibly unable to make payments and fully understand the implications of what they are signing. Only those who are accepted into the credit program may get benefits from a lengthy sign up process. Gift cards were used as incentive to manipulate customers. Management often indirectly threatened to fire those who they felt were not producing at the drop of a dime.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develope more camaraderie between management and common employees. Little to no none existed.

I have been working at Sears part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible work schedules, easy job

    Cons

A lot of micromanagement and distrust from management to their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less micromanaging and learn to trust your sales consultants. They are who make the company money to begin with.

    Good vision, strategy, and leadership
    Strong equity in brands
    Valuable member base

lack of focus on personal career development
    High turnover
    too much bureaucracy
    detachment from HR

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in making people want to stay and grow with the company. Incorporate a sense of pride. Need to do more than just quarterly town hall meetings. Businesses and people are too departmentalized or silo'd. Foster greater collaboration and share of best practices.
