I worked at Sears part-time (less than an year)

Pros

For six hours between Thanksgiving and Christmas, this job seeker was able to bring home a bit more money than otherwise. The location in question added hundreds of employees right before the holidays. This applicant believes the purpose of hiring was to encourage holiday shopping at Sears. Each new hire was given a "Shop Your Way" rewards cards and an employee discount.

Cons

The tax survey screening incorrectly assigned tax credits and status as a veteran.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of hiring in-volume, hire only enough people to whom you can give reasonable hours. Fix the tax-credit screening process so that only legitimate benefits are claimed. Employees shouldn't be asked to sign documents that contain false information.

I worked at Sears full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Learned a lot about retail and it's current condition.

    Cons

Less and less personal responsibility, more and more micromanagement for less and less pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to keep good upbeat owners, pay them.

I worked at Sears part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Autonomy to make decisions when time arose. The managers were very good to allow employees to make decisions on their own in regard to customer complaints.

    Cons

The wages paid by Sears were too for the work that was required. Most employees made very close to a minimum wage or right at the minimum wage for the state of TN.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Increase wages of employees
