I have been working at Security Industry Specialists

    Pros

The pay is usually pretty good compared to some other companies. Although I have seen recent advertisments for management positions that 2 years ago where paying a starting wage of $72,000/year, and the same position is now only being offered for $60,000/year. There have been likewise reductions in field supervisor salaries as well.

    Cons

SIS fosters a working atmosphere where the goal of subordinates is to get the supervisors or managers above them fired in hopes of getting their job. It is almost as if the rank and file officers have more influence then the managment does.

Managers and/or supervisors only last a year or two. While there are a couple that have been around for awhile, these are usually ex-cops, which John Spesak, the owner, favors, usually those who are part of the inner circle of upper management, or friends with those that are. If your not part of the in crowd, your just an expendable employee. Equal treatment for all employees is something that simply does not exist at SIS.

It is really a cutthroat environment, especially for managers. Some really great managers have come through SIS, only to be tossed aside on a whim, potentially damaging their careers. I would avoid working for SIS if you can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating your managers and supervisors like people instead of numbers. Try showing your managers and supervisors the same loyalty you expect from them.

I worked at Security Industry Specialists

    Pros

Good hourly pay, health benefits, 401K. This company has sites throughout the US. They don't treat you as a body on a site it's the best security company I have worked for and I've worked for many in the Austin area.

    Cons

Lots of overtime, some employees call in sick and are repetitive at doing this which means you may have to hold over extra hours due to their bad work habits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Expand your company to more corporate accounts. Hire more ex military employees for quality staffing. Only hire individuals with vehicles.
