Former Employee - IT Project Manager  in  Memphis, TN
Former Employee - IT Project Manager in Memphis, TN

I worked at Sedgwick Claims Management Services

Pros

Industry is very stable as it is IT Healthcare and there is no shortage of project work - EVER!

Cons

Management was out of touch with employees and strategic direction at the top was misaligned. Overall communication between and to/from Sr. Management was very poor. C-level executives who protected their employees and were outspoken didn't last long - it was a culture of who you knew vs. what your area of expertise was - would not recommend to anyone until improvements are made.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication is never overrated, neither is appreciating employees for a job well done. Hire non-biased executives with true leadership potential and don't let the CIO bring in whomever he knows instead.

    Pros

Working with the leader in employee absence management.

    Cons

Case load does not allow you to do your best work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Negotiate contracts with the clients with the workers in mind. Sure we are getting all of the business, but at what cost to employee morale. The workers are relied upon by management to fulfill client contracts.

I have been working at Sedgwick Claims Management Services

    Pros

Education assistance, certification assistance and bonus for achieving, paid time off.

    Cons

Pay is very low for claims while stress is high. The client dictates how a lot of stuff is done since Sedgwick is a TPA. Therefore, some claims that should not be paid are paid, and some that should be paid aren't.. Pay and advancement doesn't appear equal for the same level jobs. No one with years of adjusting experience should be brought in at an equal or lower pay than someone with no experience unless there's a set salary. But it appears that certain people are offered higher salaries from the start.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase the pay for claims. There's no way that you should be paying $32,000 to a claims examiner in 2011 who already has 3-4 years adjusting experience. But they do it because they know they can get away with it in today's market. Stop the discrimination in pay and advancement. Don't give someone 3-5k more a year because of skin color or nepotism or some previous affinity. There should be a system for pay across the board.
