Good pay and benefits, but you're just a number.

Pros

Good pay and benefits. Clinical services does an excellent job supporting the therapists.

Cons

HR appears to run the company. The most senior people in the company must talk to HR to do anything, even hiring at the staff manager level. The company has the attitude everyone's replacable and we'll just find someone else for your job rather than making you feel valuable. Select Medical's employees appear to feel like they're just a number and has "lost it's touch" with the acquistion of HealthSouth.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take control away from HR, your employees feels HR runs the company and not you.

    Pros

Large corporation yet still has that small business vibe. The people around seem to be quite happy to ok in their everyday working environment. Decent Benefits package. Great access to highway which allows for a decent commute. Overall not so bad.

    Cons

Lower than average pay. The coffee could be better. Difficult to transfer knowledge between department to department. No information sharing program. Training programs are lacking. There is lack of team management, granted micro-management may not be the key to success, but there is little management involvement in the roots of the operations and therefore procedures have room for improvement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a more standardized data mining system. Determine a benchmark for performance analysis.

I have been working at Select Medical full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Smart people to learn from, open and easy access to senior management, pace is fast, expectations are high, work (healthcare) is rewarding. Employees are encourages to cross-train to expand their skills and knowledge. Company has nationwide locations, so relocation doesn't have to mean unemployment.

    Cons

Days can be long, work load can be intense at times. Pace is very fast, but this also means the day flies by -- not likely ever to be boring. Company has grown tremondously, which also means change is common, not a bad thing but takes some getting used to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share information timely and transparently as you can. Remember to say thanks at the end of a busy day. Take some time to celebrate successess with the team.
