Worked two locations - one great, one awful. Local management is key.

I have been working at Select Specialty Hospitals full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Great per diem pay for RN, good paid training.

Cons

You will work very hard! Still paper charting in some locations.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

One location was excellent to work for -- super organized and committed management. The second location I worked at was a nightmare.... couldn't get out of there fast enough. Disorganized, not team oriented, poor management.... Get rid of local management that shows up for a paycheck and has no interest in their patients, process improvement or employee satisfaction and training.

    Pros

Plenty of work if you want overtime, 12 hour shifts, one weekend every 3 weeks, lots of online education.

    Cons

They adjust the acuity level to make it fit the staffing instead of the other way around. High rate of turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more help. Treat employees with respect.

I have been working at Select Specialty Hospitals full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Can't name one- trying to get out

    Cons

They talk a good game, but it's all smoke and mirrors. Their required "education" is a joke- developed for the lowest common denominator, instead of expanding the knowledge base of competent nurses. It's all about the dollar- they will cut staffing to bare bones, and then beat you up if things don't get done. Also micro manage, and play favorites. So called policies are applied when and if they fill like it, not consistently. Policies change on a daily basis, and you it's tough to find any that are actually written. High turn over, not surprisingly. Not respect for nurses from either management, or unlicensed people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This place is so screwed up, it's probably unfixable.
