Former Employee - Mechanical Design Engineer  in  Attleboro, MA
Former Employee - Mechanical Design Engineer in Attleboro, MA

Pros

Challenging work environment, competitive pay, potential to gain a lot of knowledge about the industry. There are many talented people to work with.

Cons

Employees feel undervalued at times, upper management is more concerned about stock prices than fostering a healthy engineering environment. The talented people you work with are not appreciated and are typically disgruntled due to lack of appreciation and trickle down of company profits.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop feeding the financial machine and focus on company sustainability. That is how you attract the best talent. It became clear that short-term profits were of utmost importance, to the dissatisfaction of employees, degrading quality metrics, and company reputation among it's customers and supply chain.

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Attleboro, MA

    Pros

Fast moving company. Good experience to set you up for future roles in other companies.

    Cons

Work 24/7 with no budget to get things done. High Burnout rate. Management is concerned with only one thing: the Stock Price. They will slash and cut everything to get the stock price up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look long term, more that quarter to quarter. Don't be so concerned with making money for yourself, because if you run the company well, the money should follow.

This is a sinking ship in so many ways--see comments to Mgmt

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR is a nightmare--especially those associated with Benefits and Business End in Controls, and they tend to "pull the ladder up" behind them, making no path for advancement of/for those who have ambition within the company. It is CLEARLY a CLIQUE.
Mgmt is greedy-- it is an option to grant bonuses and there are no clear metrics to individual employees given, so there is never a way to rise above expectations and be rewarded.
Forced vacation or SHUTDOWNS, despite the "Timebank" that you tout, is clearly to utilize Shutdowns as a means to control when people utilize their timebank and it adds more money to the coffers EXEC MGMT fill to give themselves raises and bonuses--proof found in annual reports.

This is a sinking ship and if you want to restore your faith in your engineers--the bread winners of the company-- you will start acting more responsibly and promote change at the Management Level Effective Immediately.
The Managers you have in Sensors have no way of rewarding employees and tend not to. Mgmt in Controls are just trying to retire quietly and get by, and your Corporate outfit is disconnected from what it is this company does/provides (engineered sensors and controls--products.)
You have downsized Process and Mechanization Groups to the point of beyond Lean.
You have labs with equipment failure on a daily basis b/c you haven't invested in new equipment at your Attleboro site since you broke off from TI. The labs are just sad. There isn't enough of anyhting to get the job done by one department, much less, multiple and defense contracts.
Local High School labs are a good comparison--meanwhile you recruit from top tier tech universities. There isn't a week that goes by without equipment failure, but you have trained your MGMT in Engineering to keep capital improvements to a minimum--which they do--in order to obtain a yearly bonus, so the stress and lack of resources is passed down to the folks who can't do anything about the situation.
You have Customer Service Personnel who can't even do their jobs appropriately b/c your shipping procedures/practices are antiquated and protected by individuals who fear for their own job security--and this is allowed by middle managers.
Meanwhile---you can't even provide top technical talent pay to keep up with COLAs. And the 401 k match is optional and an embarrassment to the Financial and Technical Industries.

Your current means of running this company is ruining your reputation with the technical community and has people talking about the fact that your disposable actions toward people reflect this company will not be keeping long-term operations in Attleboro, Mass.

Engineers do talk. They are saying that Sensata is a place to come to while you look for another place to work. There is no long term engineering position at Sensata unless you are accepted into the Engineering Circle, and even then, Engineers are not happy.
They work 2-3 full-time jobs under the one roof of Sensata.
This doesn't allow leisure time for the technical minded to recharge a battery and it doesn't provide you with any individuals who look forward to their tenure at Sensata.

CHANGE NOW without waiting for another quarterly meeting to examine how positive change might affect your money bags. YOU SHOULD BE IN EMERGENCY MODE. RED ALERT.
