I worked at Sentry Insurance full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Expenses are all covered. You get a car and they pay for gas.

    Cons

Managers have no idea what is going on in your territories. Upper management has no interest in your success. They will tell you what you want to hear and never follow through. Salary sounds good but good luck getting anything through underwriting. If you are an honest person, this is not the job for you. Policies are made to make the company look good from the outside, but fall way short on their promises. You can go from hero to zero in an instant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on your focus markets and learn what your customers really need.

I worked at Sentry Insurance full-time

    Pros

Implemented agile methodology, structured approach to development, new folks haven't been around long enough to understand/realize the lack of upward mobility beyond first level promotions.

    Cons

Upper management tells you what you want to hear, but falls short on the follow through, which results in disillusioned and bitter associates who are willing to stay until they find another employer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't dangle the carrot of future opportunity/promotion, reward dedicated employees (not flight risks), and promote people when they earn it (NOT when it appears to be convenient or a last resort). If not, your competitors will reap the benefits of your incompetence.
