    SCI can be a good place to work but it really depends on what department and/or field location you are in.

    Pros

    good benefits
    approachable senior management team
    Company is truly compassionate and focused toward the families and communities they serve

    Cons

    -inconsistent management abilities among departments creates information silos and drastic company culture differences within different departments
    -difficult to advance career unless you are being championed by your manager
    -SCI known as "sudden change imminent" due to the knee jerk reaction of always putting out fires and frequent corporate restructuring

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Reevaluate corporate management on an individual basis. Many managers may look good on papaer but are killing the spirit of their employees.

    Pros

    The job itself is fulfilling...helping others through the grief and preplanning. It was a an environment that stressed sales but not at the expense of families. The funeral directors are top notch and the facilities are appreciated.

    Cons

    Cronyism is rampant. The ticket to advancement had more to do with hobnobbing with executives then doing a fantastic job. If they did not like an employee they pressured them to quit. Their sales compensation package for sales managers was complicated. They have an attitude of "any warm body" will do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Although I did well within the company, they lost a lot of good guys (and gals) due to poor low level compensation.
